A Network is two or more electronic devices (Such as PC's, Phones, Tablets) linked together. 2 or more "Nodes" Connected together. Nodes are the electronic Devices. The purpose of a network is to communicate and share between different people and nodes.
LAN: This stands for Local Area network. This interconnects computers in a small and limited area such as a school, Home, or Work Office. WiFi and Ethernet cables are used often to build LANs. These are all wired networks. It is often and individual or a small group that own a LAN.
WAN: This stands for Wide Area network. A WAN covers a large or broad area using leases telecommunication lines. Often covers areas such as cities, countries and sometimes even continents. A WAN has to be paid for by people who own LANs to connect to others all over the world/country. The Internet is the biggest WAN.
WLAN: This stands for Wireless Local Area network. They are the same as LANs however they do not require wires (They are Wireless). It provides long term cost benefits as you don't have to pay for the cables. however it is slower than normal LAN as cables send and receive data faster than a wireless connection. People can also hack or tap into your Network much easier than they could with just cables. There are also limitations to WLAN as it can be blocked by objects.
